Greetings,
I've been looking for a used 20g Wingmaster with a 26" barrel. In our case the gun will be primarily used by family and friends for some clay sports at our cottage. It may also get some use as an upland gun to put the occasional bird on the table.
That size of gun doesn't seem to come around very often in the used market (in my area anyway). For that matter, quality 25 yr old (or newer) 12g Wingmasters seem to command almost double the price of a new Express.
My question is this, should I be patient and wait for a used Wingmaster or am I better off buying a new Express with a full Warranty?
A new 20g 870 Sportsman with a 26" barrel is available at a local dealer for $500+tax. I've included a photo below. It's never a bad thing to develop a relationship with the local shop. I expect a used Wingmaster could cost me close to $850. I appreciate the aesthetics of the Wingmaster but if they perform similarly it seems foolish to pay more for used gloss and bluing.
Which direction would you go?
Thanks in advance for your time.

I have never had to deal with remington customer service... But used vs new could mean no warranty vs warranty

Re: New vs. Used?
Used wingmaster used to be $250 guns if you werent looking for near-new. That wasn't but a couple years ago. Not sure if it's all the recent gun rush, or Remmy closure, or quality perception. I suppose all of above. Will well-used WM remain this high? I doubt it.
Re: New vs. Used?
That said your express 20 seems to be aligned to today's prices so if you are looking for today's option I'd go with the bird in the hand.
Re: New vs. Used?
Depends on how long you're willing to wait for the "right" used Wingmaster to appear. I'd get the Express, get used to shooting it and if needed, sell it to finance the Wingmaster. That way you're active, not watching and waiting.

My 1975 very used Wingmaster was $500 and unless you live in a very gun friendly state , I wouldn’t expect to find one cheaper right away
