Right Shell Latch issue?

Post by SeoulMan »

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had encountered a problem like this, and if there was any solution.

I have a 870 Police that the Right Shell Latch's (ejection side) tension is pushing the action bar out enough, that the carrier lifter sometimes hits the action bar when reloading with the action closed.

I have compared this to my other 870P, and others I've handled, and have not seen one that has this same condition. Usually the slide assy holds the action bars mostly in the receiver slots, and the carrier is free moving. I have tried replacing the slide assembly and the fore end assembly (action bars), and checked dims of those parts, but the issue doesn't seem to be with those parts.

I am wondering if maybe the receiver slots are cut wider than normal on my receiver, and that's why the Slide Assy isn't holding the action bars farther into the slots, letting the tension of the shell latch push the action bar out away from the receiver to point the carrier can hit it.

If anyone has any advice on this, please let me know.

Thanks

Sure, some picturers always help. Is your shell latch sliding on the rivets and moving fore-or-aft?

This is a picture, if I'm posting correctly. You can see that the action bar is at least 50% out of it's receiver groove, and I have the carrier pushed down past the fore end tube assy's action bar, as if to load the magazine.

The right latch is not loose, but when pushed against the receiver by the action bar, it's compressed enough that it pushes the action bar out of it's rail, enough to contact the carrier. Again, this is only when the action is closed. When the action is open, the right latch is not 'activated', and the left latch doesn't have this issue ... probably because the foreend tube assy's action bar is not far away from it's attachment point on the foreend tube in that state, so the action bar isn't able to bend much.

Thanks

Did you ever find a solution? Same problem with my 20 gauge 1978 870 Wingmaster LW.
