Parkerizing question

Post by Romulus »

I had my 870 express parkerized roughly 30 years ago when it was nearly new. Receiver still looks great with very minor handling wear. Over the years this shottie became a frankengun of sorts (new barrel, extensions of different sorts, clamps, new wood) and the color of the parts doesn't match. I'd like to reparkerize it a nice dark gray, not black. I would be grateful if you could recommend a solution/kit you've worked with that gave you good results. Conversely, if you can advise which kits to avoid if you've had repeated bad experiences. Thanks,
Rom

Always had a 'smith do my parkerizing, so can't help ya. But I do love a grey finish.

I get your point completely, but if it gets done, I'm the one who's gonna do it. Just cause I want to learn it and get the zen or whatever from the art of shotgun maintenance. Or maybe I'll catch the vibes from the practical appearance of the frankengun, like you would from a beat up 60s Bronco, and leave it as is.
So I'm still looking for product advice. I would be very grateful.

That's who I was leaning towards just because they're established...have you used or gotten feedback on their park systems?
Thanks, Rom

I have done a lot of parkerizing over the the last 29 years, but not with their system. They have been selling it for years, so it must work.

Thanks Banshee. Quick follow-up question since you're an old hand at parking: the 870 I want to park has actually been parked once before. How many park jobs can the ejector spring take before it embrittles from the acid solution?
Thanks again,
Rom
