Re: Remington 870 Express Trap
Nicely done, some good mods there. But does she bust clays?!? A gun that purty should hit all the ones that you miss.

Re: Remington 870 Express Trap
Great job! Ive never gone the Timney route for my turkey shoot shotguns Ive alway went with the 3lb Remington drop in Competition sear spring (yellow).
I like the Brownells followers but I recommend the aluminum ones over steel. You never want steel on steel. Aluminum or the hi viz aftermarket hard plastic.

Re: Remington 870 Express Trap
Thank you! I went with Timmey because you can adjust pound by pound with the turn of a small hex wrench but we'll see how it holds up the first time and go from there.

I personally prefer the S&J Hardware nylon followers with the finger stub for checking magazine status, but I mostly carry my 12 Ga's as slug guns in black bear country. Being able to reach in and see if there's a shell or a follower touching your finger unseen is useful. But probably not so in a trap gun.

Hadn't thought about the ease of feeling an unseen follower. Interesting thought!Scorpion8 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 6:32 pm I personally prefer the S&J Hardware nylon followers with the finger stub for checking magazine status, but I mostly carry my 12 Ga's as slug guns in black bear country. Re: Remington 870 Express Trap
S&J Hardware (there might be others) has some either with a hole or an extended nub on the follower. Makes it easy to slip a finger in and automatically say "that ain't a shell" without looking. A previous member of this forum (haven't seen him in awhile) taught me that. Kudos to member Synchronizor.

Re: Remington 870 Express Trap
Finally got around to taking the 870 ET out to the range! With the previously mentioned upgrades (non-MIM extractor, Timney trigger fix at 2lbs, polished bolt assembly, and mag tube spring/follower), the 870 ET shot like a dream - weighing at around 8.25-8.50LBS, it was incredibly responsive at the trigger and the elevated montecarlo stock definitely helped align the front sight above the clays as they raised. I brought my 28" and 30" VR Wingmasters as well and the 870 ET held up well agaisnt the 30" WM! The action of the twin-action bars is not as smooth as the WM's; the overall quality of both the wood & steel felt a lot sturdier and of higher-end on the WM. You get what you pay for; however, for the price of the 870 ET, you're getting a very consistent & well-rounded beginner trap shotgun.
Between my buddy and I, we put about 175-200 rounds through the ET. I only used the "Singles .027" choke" - I can't wait to see how it handles once I use the more constricted chokes between full & extra full later this week!
