Failure to feed
Failure to feed
I just recently purchased a used 870.this is my first one so I really don’t know anything about them.ive noticed everytime I load a few shells in and pull the grip back, the shell never gets released to the elevator.everything els works perfectly fine.ive only got it to release a few times by pulling back super hard but now not even that works.ive tried 3 1/2 Winchester shells and 2 3/4 federal shells.ive disassembled And reassembled it multiple times double checking everything.could it be a bad spring?Or bad ammo?Id appreciate any ideas.

Re: Failure to feed
Shell latch related, bent, broke, gunked up.
The devil danced as he went down, in the hail of arrows comin' Out on the wild Montana ground, Custer died a-runnin'.
Re: Failure to feed
Are you sure your chamber is capable of 3-1/2" shells? If your barrel is only marked for 2-3/4" and 3" shells, those larger ones will never eject, as the ejection port (and the barrel chamber) limit that ability.

Re: Failure to feed
I took it apart 1 more time last night and racked it without the tacstar forend grip it came with..it loaded a shell every time.could that grip not be compatible with it?its an express super magnum.
Re: Failure to feed
It's possible the forend grip is installed wrong, preventing the action from cycling all-the-way properly. You might poke around on their website and see if there's any info.

Re: Failure to feed
This is exactly what it seems to be..I’ve followed their installing video but it’s still in the way.
Re: Failure to feed
Do you need the Tacstar grip, or will an original-style grip suit you? If you have an original one, I'd put it back and see if the issue is solved until you can determine where the Tacstar grip is hanging up. Are there any knicks or rub marks, dings from impacting the receiver or anything you can trim away? Does it need a little persuasion, or major overhaul?
