Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
It's about 2'' longer. Do you think i will have problem?
No, it's not a problem. Most competitive shooters have extension which is longer than the barrel:
You will have to clean the extension from lead residue after shooting but other than that - everything is ok.
Thank you very much for your help

Emailed Nordic Components about the 870 extensions, was told the barrel nut is being redesigned and no ETA on the kits being available again.

Oh, didn't know about that. But it will be interesting to see the new barrel nut.Roost426 wrote:Emailed Nordic Components about the 870 extensions, was told the barrel nut is being redesigned and no ETA on the kits being available again.
You can buy original Remington 870 extension, it works great. "What magazine extension do you use?" poll: http://www.rem870.com/2012/06/09/what-m ... -use-poll/ has shown that it is the most popular extension today: http://tinyurl.com/9lwl4xu

if you have to buy an aluminum mag tube, then get a nordic, but i would go with steel 9 out of 10 times, aluminum tends to split when it gets hit, steel tends to dent, but steel will bounce back from a hit aluminum will not.
eaither way the ati is crap

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
Hey... just saw a new post and thought I would put my .02 in here.
I recently got the Choate +2 because it was the ONLY +2 (or any) extension I could find in stock and did not want to get screwed when I really need it. Was unsure because I heard mixed reviews but am 100% pleased. Totally worth the $45 I spent.
I wrote a small review on the extension and Vitaly (forum owner) posted it on the website. Here is the link:

I have put roughly 50+ shells downrange with no problems WHATSOEVER and have cycled probably close to 100 through it. Nothing. No mods to spring or tube. I did however, ditch the follower that came with it as it was rather tight and a solid follower with a tail. I don't like the tail. The only thing you need to make sure of when installing any extension is to NEVER cross thread when installing.

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
I recently installed a Choate 5 round extension on my wife's 870 Express 20 gauge. My feelings are mixed on the subject and I have since removed it, replacing the original follower, spring, cap, etc, etc...
While I am happy with the ease of installation and the overall function of the extension, I am not satisfied with how the end of the extension is deflected from the centerline of the magazine when the sling clamp is installed. Please see the pics below.
The distance from extension to barrel at the connection point to the original magazine is approximately 1/4 inch.
The distance at the muzzle is approximately 3/8 inch.
When I remove the clamp, the extension returns to the centerline and remains 1/4 down the entire length.
While the feed is not hindered by the deflection nor does the shot hit the extension - we put 100 rounds through it this weekend - I am concerened with the weld on the end of the extension cracking from the stress of the deflection and merely thumping an intruder in the forehead with the extension and getting sued.
I purchased the extension from MidwayUSA. I was trying to find a 2 or 3 round extension - all of which were out of stock - and snapped this one up without a second thought. Then I started to read the reviews of the Choate extensions. Some good review, some bad reviews. I think if I could get a sling clamp which does not deflect the extension, I would reinstall it and be very happy, even though it stretches out five full inches from the muzzle.
I have sent a request for help to Choate and expect a reply in the coming week.
I will let you know what they say.

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
Wow. That is quite a variation you have there. Sorry to here that. Yes, I am not super pleased with the quality of the clamp that comes with the Choate extension but I am not completely unhappy with MINE. However, I don't have any variation in mine but mine is only the +2 extension. Good luck. I am curious to see how Choate responds to your request.

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
I sent a message off to Choate on thier website expalining my problem with the extension and they sent me a message back this morning. It seems the sling clamp in the kit was for a 12 gauge, not a 20 gauge. After a short conversation with a nice lady in thier customer service department, I have a 20 gauge clamp in the mail coming to Texas.
Hopefully that will solve the problem.
I'll post a couple pics when I get it installed.
