Barrel swap for 870 tactical

Post by 1Remlover » Wed Jul 25, 2018 1:26 am

Looking to swap my short tactical barrel for a longer ribbed vented barrel to try skeet/ trap. So many choices out there that confuse me. Not sure which ones will fit. Any suggestions

Another new member here, but does your tactical model have the 6 shell magazine tube, or the 4 shell tube with the +2 extension?

If you have the +2 extension then any of the 870 VR barrels should fit (maybe not 3 1/2" Supermag). Any "Express" barrel will fit and the finish will also match the receiver. If you have the 6 shell tube, then my understanding is no other Remington barrel will match up.

Good luck!

What he said. There is a spacer that will let you put hunting barrels on a receiver with the long single-piece 6-round mag tube, but it's a kinda janky solution. You're much better off getting a model with a standard receiver if you want a multi-role gun.

Also, you can put SuperMag barrels on a normal 12ga receiver. They all mount up the same way, and 2.75" & 3" shells will shoot fine out of a 3.5" chamber.
