How i function test the action of my Rem.870.

Post by Snapshot870 »

I am always looking for a ways to function test the action of my Rem.870, without firing live Ammo.

What i do is use Snap Caps i load my Rem.870 up with them and rack the slide to see if they feed and eject correctly.

This process also lets me practice loading my shotgun quickly under normal and stress conditions.

Anyone with other ideas please post them.

You can always cut the crimp off of a previously fired shell and fill it with caulking or epoxy to give it a little weight.

I don't feel the weight of the shot shell would make any real difference in how the racking action works.

It doesn't affect function that much, but ejection is affected by the mass distribution of the shell, and feeding has to work against inertia of the shells as well (though this is rarely important when recoil isn't involved). A bigger reason for realistically-weighted dummy shells or snap caps is to make practice drills more realistic.

For me it's more about training of the loading my shotgun under a stressful condition.
