So i'm considering putting a sling on my 870 but i'm debating what route to go for the front mount. I was wanting to utilize the existing swivel stud it has on the barrel clamp because i like that it mounts under the mag tube vs the Magpul forward sling mount that mounts on the side of the tube. i'm adding a WML and the magpul forward mount would be blocked by the light. Is the factory swivel stud good? if so, what would i need to be able to use the magpul ms3 sling on it. i was looking at these:
https://www.amazon.com/REMINGTON-SHOTGU ... op?ie=UTF8
is this correct? for the rear i'm just going to use a magpul sga receiver mount
https://www.magpul.com/products/sga-rec ... -sga-stock
So i just need to figure out the front. Thanks for any tips.
Sling i'm getting:

Re: Sling for Remington 870
The sling swivel on the factory extension bracket is pretty darn solid. It's all steel parts, with the swivel held into the bracket with a good snap ring, and the bracket itself locking into the groove in the extension tube to keep from sliding around. Any standard QD sling swivel like the ones you linked will work with it, just make sure they match the width of your sling (I think the MS3 webbing is 1.25" wide).
However, with that rear sling attachment point, you're going to get into the situation where your sling attaches to the side of the gun at the stock end, but the underside of the gun at the muzzle end. Maybe that'll work for you, but I've tried a similar (albeit flipped) arrangement when I was evaluating Vang Comp's +2 magazine extension, and it felt really goofy to me.
Also, if you replace one of the MS3's clip ends with a standard pin-type QD end, you're probably not going to be able to easily swap it over to single-point mode, which is a major feature of that sling (and probably a big part of why it costs $50).

Re: Sling for Remington 870
So i have the Magpul SGA stock and it deosnt have anything on the bottom of the stock where i can add a mounting point for a sling. everything is on the side so i dont know that i have much of a choice with the rear mounting point. I was planning on just using the ms3 sling with the clips, no QD pins or anthing. I was hoping to find something similar to the things i linked: https://www.amazon.com/REMINGTON-SHOTGU ... op?ie=UTF8 and i'd just clip on to those with the ms3 sling. Is that a bad idea? I could try to use the magpul foward sling mount but i feel like the flashlight is going to get in the way of that. That's why i liked the fact the factory forward swivel stud was on the bottom.

Oh, I see. Yeah, that would probably work, though getting the clip onto the swivel while it's swinging around might be a little awkward.Jbur wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 4:03 am I was hoping to find something similar to the things i linked: https://www.amazon.com/REMINGTON-SHOTGU ... op?ie=UTF8 and i'd just clip on to those with the ms3 sling. Can you post a picture of your light setup?
Re: Sling for Remington 870
Still waiting to get it actually. Christmas present lol but it's going to be the Elzetta mount with a streamlight polytac flashlight. It looks like the Magpul forward mount can be adjusted a little, so if face it down it might work but i feel it will still get hung up on the light a little.

Re: Sling for Remington 870
The Elzetta mounts can accept a 1913 rail opposite the flashlight. You could use that to attach a Magpul RSA or something similar. Or maybe you could directly mount something like the Magpul Paraclip if the holes line up right.
Re: Sling for Remington 870
I was considering something like that but i wanted to have the mount on the left side of the gun because i'm right handed. i thought it would hang wrong if i mounted it on the right side of the gun. same with the flashlight that way i'm able to activate it with my thumb on the forend.

Re: Sling for Remington 870
It seems like you'd want the sling to be on the side opposite from the flashlight, so that you're not hitting the flashlight with your shoulder. However, putting that rear mount on the same side as your trigger hand might not be such a hot idea.
At this point, I guess I would say get your flashlight figured out first, then see what space there is for a sling attachment point.

Re: Sling for Remington 870
So what is the general opinion of the mag-tube cap sling swivel that has been around forever? I have none on my 870, but picked up one of these caps for the day when I need a sling.
