870 looks ugly now

Post by 870noob »

Hi guys.

I bought a Magpul stock and foreend for my 870 and just fit them.

I never planned on doing a mag extension on my gun, but with the Magpul foreend, it looks odd...

especially this angle, it looks like it needs a circumcision...

Is there something out there that extends the mag (just for aesthetics) a little without modifying anything ?

Thanks

you'll probably have to just do an extension. there are a couple one shot extensions out there that will give you a little extra length.

Circumcision, hah! I agree the Magpul fore-end hangs out front more than it probably should.

Check out the Wilson Combat +1 magazine extension. It's essentially an elongated magazine cap, complete with a sling stud on the end. There are a couple other styles with different sling attachment features (or a lack thereof) as well. These are nice because they're affordable, come with a good spring & follower, and include a wave washer in case you want to use this extension with a barrel that doesn't have a mag cap detent.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was trying to avoid drilling and extensions, but it looks like I will be compelled to do it.

Edit:
@Synchronizor - this build is for home defense, so may I ask which type causes the least problem with feeding, etc... thanks

If your gun has the dimpled mag tube and plastic spring retainer, you could just take off your mag cap and screw the +1 extension right on (using the included wave washer if needed), leaving the factory retainer, spring, and follower where they are. This'll give you the extended cap you're looking for, and the magazine will function exactly as it did with the mag cap. Obviously you'll want to get that extra round at some point, but this'll let your gun keep serving until you get around to getting the dimples removed.

Any good extension should work reliably if you install it right, but +1 extensions are nice because they're mostly just there to make room for a longer spring to coil up into. The base mag tube has enough space for 5 typical 2.75" shells and a follower, so you don't have to worry as much about stuff hanging up in the joint between the mag tube & extension.

Does this circumsized piece make my butt stock look big?

OK, probably a little excessive humor, but "looks" should come secondary to function if you don't want to add weight and such.

Thank you very much. I never thought I can just stick the +1 extension and just use it a an end cap.

Now I just need to ask if the sling mount will not block the Magpul fore end, I sent them an email but if you or anyone has experience with it, please don't hesitate to reply to the thread... thank you!

I want this one, because the one with stud is out of stock:

No, the Magpul fore-end won't extend past the knurled base on the Wilson Combat +1 extensions, so that sling plate should work fine. Keep in mind that you won't be able to quickly detach a sling with that style of plate, though.

Off topic but could you post some pics of where your Magpul stock attaches to the receiver? Mine, the angles don't quit line up right and I'm wondering if that's normal.
