Just bought one with 18 inch barrel .what thoughts on it..passed on a Mossberg for it...does it have the dimples or not..seems well made.

If it's a new, current-production 870, it'll probably have the mag tube dimples unless it came with a factory-installed magazine extension. Not really a big deal though, those dimples are fairly easy to remove if needed.
The Express 870s are the same guns as other 870s, they just have a really basic furniture & finish. But as long as you don't neglect it or regularly expose it to really harsh conditions, that finish should do the job just fine. The furniture may not be fancy, but it's perfectly functional, and all the mechanical bits inside are just as well-made as any higher-end models.
