870P 4+1 magazine tube spring

Post by mojave30cal » Sun Jul 30, 2017 5:38 pm

I have a Remington 870P I picked up on Gun Broker 5-6 years ago. It was a police trade in. I use it primarily for home defense. This one has the
parked finish and the walnut stocks and has the 4+1 shot shell capacity. I'm looking for the factory 870P replacement spring. Most of the replacement
springs on the internet are for the models with the 6+1 magazine tube extension. I need the 4+1 spring variety. Any leads would be appreciated.

For a 4+1 12ga 870, you have three OEM choices for replacement mag springs:

First is part number F92447. This is the standard 4-round 870P spring. It's a normal 17-7 stainless spring that's little longer then the standard 4-rounder used in civilian 870s. If you want the same thing these guns come with from the factory, this is the one to get.

The second is PN F19479. This is the standard 4-round 17-7 stainless spring used in hunting 870s. Perfectly stiff enough for most shooting, and it'll make the gun a little easier to reload. If this is a normal HD gun, this'll be plenty for reliable function.

Finally, there's PN F97615. This is mechanically and functionally the same thing as the F92447 Police spring, but instead of bare heat-treated 17-7 stainless (which is only good for general-purpose corrosion resistance), this spring is nickel-plated for really harsh environments. It's meant for 4+1 Marine Magnums, but it'll obviously work in any 4+1 12ga 870, though it's almost certainly overkill for a HD gun. This is the most expensive spring, about double the cost of the other two, but that's still only about $9, so if you'll feel warm & fuzzy knowing the gun in your closet has a saltwater-rated spring, knock yourself out.

Thanks guys. I ordered and received the F92447 spring from Remington and installed it. I appreciate the help!

Yes! Thanks very much!

I got to make use of this old post to replace my own spring on a 4+1... ;)
