870 barrel clamp
870 barrel clamp
I have a buddy who is offering to sell me a 870 tactical at a really good price $200. The gun is only 2 months old. He told me that he did some upgrades like hi viz front site, Magpul stock/handguard, some others things I forgot. But one of the things he did I can't figure out why? He cut the fixed barrel clamp off of it. Not sure why but he did. He said he just used a Nordic barrel clamp on it and it worked fine. My question is before I buy this how safe is this? I'm feeling I should just purchase a new barrel. But any answers will help and thanks in advance!!

Re: 870 barrel clamp
By "fixed barrel clamp", are you referring to the barrel guide ring? If so, that's not safe at all. I would definitely not recommend firing the gun until a new barrel is installed; and if your friend's "gunsmithing" included removing the guide ring, I would be highly suspect of everything else he touched on the gun.
