struggling with reliability...
struggling with reliability...
HI guys,.competitive sporting clays shooter here,(pump gun category)...having trouble with ejection issues on true pair targets...the gun always extracts but shell does not eject clear of receiver (is sticking out port)..info...3 in 870 express, with 3 1/2 chamber barrel,Volquartsen extractor ,jack west adj comb stock..have relieved the shell head rim area of barrel to repair extraction issues, thats not a problem now...use only rem sts target shells, new or reload doesn't matter...any ideas to try now?? Thanks .

Re: struggling with reliability...
How often does this occur? Does ejection get more reliable if you rack the slide very rapidly? How about feeding, is ejection with an empty magazine any better or worse than ejection while shells are coming out of the mag?
Try taking out your extractor, extractor plunger, & extractor spring, then thoroughly clean out the passage in the bolt. If that doesn't solve the problem, check that your ejector & ejector spring are in good shape. If either are worn out, they might be contributing to weak ejection.

Re: struggling with reliability...
It happens 5 or more times in a 100 round tournament...Inspected the extractor plunger and bore, looks ok and moves good..always feeds the second shell from the magazine ok.. I believe it has something to do with the fired shell popping free from the extractor claw before the extractor spring can turn it all the way out the ejection port...speed seems to help, but no cure yet...thanks for the thoughts,I will continue to study the problem....I can really shoot it well, want to keep the combination..L

Re: struggling with reliability...
Have you tried switching back to your original extractor?
Re: struggling with reliability...
Try racking it harder. Also, check ejector spring, is it ok?

Re: struggling with reliability...
I tried adjusting the bend shape in the ejector spring and removed some sharp edges where shell first contacts ejection port....I shot 50 targets Sunday and no failures....there are only about a 1000 rounds thru it so far,so it is still loosening up..thanks for the help
