Modifications/Upgrades for Rem 870 20 gauge Express Youth

As a new member, I recently posted that I have Remington 870 20 gauge Express Youth model. Is is possible to modify and/or upgrade this model using many or all of the accessories available? I have yet to fire the gun, but my intentions were to buy a shotgun for home defense. I would appreciate any and all comments regarding this issue.

Many 12ga add-ons will not fit the smaller-frame 20ga models. However, there are a number of 20ga accessories available; not as many options as the 12ga, but enough to let you build something practical for defensive purposes.
