Light Contour barrel
I was looking to buy a brand new Remington 870 Wingmaster 12ga. It seems that the last few I found were listed with "light contour" barrels. Does the Wingmaster come equipped with just the regular barrel? What's the purpose of the light contour barrel?
Stay safe out there

Take a look at this post and the previous one in the same thread. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the information, but in general, the poster had (he's deceased now) a good reputation as someone very knowledgeable about shotguns in general and the Remington 870 in particular.

I don't know if that other post's 870 barrel summary is correct but it sounds good enough to me until somebody can offer difference evidence.

Re: Light Contour barrel
The weight difference between standard and light contour barrels is about 4oz.
I find the best and prefered way to lighten a shotgun or rifle is get rid of the wood and go synthetic. Wood looks good at home and on the wall but sucks otherwise in the field.
Something to consider.

Yep, exchanging wood stocks for plastic will lighten the total gun weight but barrel weight due to length, wall thickness, and a ventilated rib will effect the swing weight. The ideal gun will have the total weight and swing weight that suites your preferences.
