cycling the action hard and fast
cycling the action hard and fast
I find that ejecting and loading a new round as soon as I have fired extracts and ejects rounds best. But does slamming the pump back and forth hard during recoil like that going to damage something. And does anyone know how long an ejector Will last sense it takes a gunsmith to change it. I have no problem with shells getting stuck in the chamber just ejecting if I cycle the action slowly. Being a tactical shotgun it not likely I will be reloading it slowly.

Re: cycling the action hard and fast
The 870 is designed to be cycled hard and fast. Remember, aside from the manual operation, its action works pretty much the same way many of Remington's gas-operated semi-autos (and even some experimental full-autos) do, and those hold up just fine.
As for the ejector, anything made by human hands can fail, of course, but as long as you don't abuse it, you shouldn't have to worry about it breaking. As I understand it, the most common cause of broken ejectors is careless reassembly, where the user doesn't line the barrel up properly and slams it against the tip of the ejector. During normal operation in an assembled gun, the ejector isn't really subjected to that much stress, and unless you got unlucky and your ejector was defective from the factory, it should last a good long time.

Thanks for your reply I saw a broken ejector on u tube just as you said I figured the guy jammed the barrel in and broke it. I saw that could happen the first time I looked at the gun. This is my first remington I ever had I have been shooting mossberg shotguns. The remington like to be run a little differently.
