I own what I believe to be a 1968 870 SC with a vent 26" barrel. I was trying to date the gun and someone had said that the barrel code did not look correct to be a skeet and it was possible I had stock and forearm that looked like the skeet model but the receiver could be different. It is labeled DKR60 on the barrel and from what I can tell that would be a September 1968 date. Can anyone tell me what I might be sitting on? I would hate to think that everything is from a different year and model.
Thanks in advance
Barrel markings on 870 SC (skeet) question...
Re: Barrel markings on 870 SC (skeet) question...
Answered my own question. Called Remington a few minutes ago.... Nice people. Anyway. The 3 barrel code is legit. DKR60 breaks down as follows. The K means it was produced in May and the R is 1968.The D on the far left is either the machine in which this barrel came off of or the inspector. The 60 she said is not anything they have record of and has only heard of numbers a few times. The serial on the receiver ending with V they have listed as a 1968 production for the skeet model in 2-3/4. They verify it is a complete 1968 870 SC.
Might be of interest if anyone tuns into a barrel code like that one.
