870 that has 'GMBH' markings

Post by jimmy45d »

Hi everyone.

First and hopefully not my last post!

I recently acquired an 870 Wingmaster 12g, circa 1972 in nice condition with wood furniture, no rib just a beaded 28" barrel (2 shot mag for UK SGC). The only thing that is vexing me are the two 'GMBH' markings, one above the target logo on the receiver and the other on the barrel above the "REMINGTON ARMS CO... etc".

Any ideas what this means? I know GMBH is the German designation for a limited liability company, but Remington aren't German and it says made in the USA on the gun. Could this have been added when it was imported? My searches have turned up nothing as of yet.

Looking forward to contributing to this forum!

Thanks,
Jim

Could it be a stamp from the outfit that imported the gun and/or modified it to meet UK regulations?

Speaking of which, how is your 870 modified to restrict its capacity to two rounds? Is it just a plug? Or something more permanent?

Could well be... As to how the capacity has been limited, I have yet to take that bit apart and have a proper look. From the outside, it looks like there is some sort of crimping/indentation around 2.5 shell lengths down the mag tube, but it looks too neat to have been done aftermarket... I'll report back once I've found out as you've got me interested now :-)
