Hey all,

I'm a retired LEO, 30 + years, retired in 2009. I had an 870 next to me in my patrol car, and qualified with one quarterly, but never owned one.

I have an AR15,(S&W M&P) but never though it was very practical for HD. I also have a Glock 27, but wanted something more.

I found this 870 Magpul at a local store and liked the FDE color. Mods I have are in the sig. It will be loaded with Hevi-Shot Hevi-Duty #4 Buck. Anyway, some good info, and cool guns on this forum.

Having shot both an AR-15 and an 870, I can definitely say that the AR has an advantage in recoil - or more precisely, the lack thereof. Still, not much will beat a shotgun for pure damage-dealing at close range. I'd say keep both handy, along with a set of earmuffs.

I also prefer #4 buckshot for HD, though the shells I load have lead pellets. Have you ever weighed those Hevi-Shot pellets to see how they compare?

Are you planning to replace that breacher choke with something more practical? Or is the "tacti-cool" look worth the extra inches for you?

Thanks alloyrat. Yeah, I'm not in love with that breacher choke because the length it adds. I think I'll replace it with a open one. It does look cool though. I have not weighed the Hevi shells, but I will, and report back.
