i would like to find an older wingmaster bolt for my express model. i really dont like the newer ones with the guard plate.

"Guard plate"? Is your 870 a SuperMag?

Yes I am. I've got a 1990 model express that I'm trying to refurb/upgrade. The bolt I have now I have polished it but that's jus not my style. If I have a shiny bolt it needs to be because its chrome.

I like the look of the chrome better myself, though I don't think there's any real advantage to it apart from maybe being a tad easier to clean.

If you're looking for used bolts, make sure you know what you're getting. A lot of the chromed Wingmaster bolts on the used market are older-style bolts that are not as good as the one you should have in your 1990 shotgun. An old-style bolt will drop into your gun and function, but if you manage to get a shell stuck between the slide assembly and the carrier, the gun will jam up.

I added a chrome Wingmaster bolt to my 870P a few months ago. Purely for looks, and I love it. As Synchronizor says, the older ones are different. Mine is of the old style, and has performed flawlessly thus far. Your mileage may vary. I found it on eBay, there are usually several to choose from.

Ok...thanks for the info. I'm leaning toward just buying a new one from Remington. The main reason I'm changing is it is my main duck gun and would rather have the chrome finish.

If you're willing to pay for a new bolt, and resistance to the elements is your main goal, you may want to consider a nickel-plated Marine Magnum bolt instead of the chrome. In addition to the nickel finish, that should come with more corrosion-resistant internals as well.
