BeamLokr flashlight mount

Post by Remo »

Hello folks!
Just recently joined REM870.com and from browsing topics, I'm glad I found this site. I'm an air gun enthusiast (no humor please) and have spent too much on this hobby but it happens. I recently purchased a Remington 870 Express Compact (20 gauge , real tree camo) . Used to hunt pheasant years ago with an Ithaca single shot and decided to purchase 870. This has the 21" barrel and 13" LOP. Nice gun and still breaking in. Purchased the HiViz magnetic front site, stainless follower by GG&G? and Remington OEM +2 extension mag w/spring and barrel clamp. Wanted a flashlight mount for HD and came across the BeamLokr mount. Any input on this product? I contacted the folks @ BeamLokr.com regarding the SG12 for issues with a 20 gauge. Promptly received reply from Steve (@BeamLokr) that it should work fine. Well , I pushed the "buy button" and in my case, cannot say enough about it. SOB works as advertised! Mounted to extension tube between coupling and barrel clamp. Have an inexpensive Hot Shot 1" diameter light mounted to it. Proceed to the back 40 and ran 5 rounds each of : #8 AA Winchester, Rem #3 buck and Rem Sluggers. WTF!. I scribed pencil marks to front and rear of mount prior to having some fun (metal gongs). If it moved it was mm. I couldn't tell. pencil still visible and feel I didn't waste my money. Had heard that this will not work with Parkerized finish but the Mag tube from Remington is Matte finish. Looks like Parkerized to me. Did I get lucky? So far so good and would appreciate pros and cons using the BeamLokr mount.
Regards,

Your Express won't have a Parkerized finish. Most Expresses have a matte bluing or black oxide finish, though a few have Cerakote or a camo dip. In any case, the finish should have no effect on a magnetic flashlight mount; it's still the same steel underneath.

Magnetic flashlight mounts are an interesting concept. I haven't used one personally, but have heard good things about them from others, and if you want fast and easy tool-less installation and removal, you really can't do much better. One downside I would anticipate with these is that even if the magnets can stand up to recoil, they're probably not able to stay put if the gun is dropped or knocked around in a struggle. So for law enforcement duty or other rough applications, a more traditional integrated or clamp-on approach is probably a better way to go if a light is desired.

Thanks for reply. The mount will serve part time duty and is the reason I purchased it. I had an Elzetta mount but found it too bulky. The 870 sees double duty (HD by night and everything else by day) and plan on purchasing a dedicated HD 870 in the future. Hope to see others chime in on the BeamLokr.
