Where to get a 21" barrel?

Post by knucklehead211 »

Hey guys. So I'm thinking of doing up my 870 like one of the old USMC/AF riot guns, with the 21" barrel and wood furniture. Does anyone have any advice on where to buy a barrel of that length with a bead or rifle sights, non vent ribbed? I know I could saw down a longer barrel too.

Bumps shouldn't be necessary, especially not after just two days.

Pretty sure the original 870R Riot & MK-1 military models had 20" barrels. I know Remington's factory +3 extension is designed to place the guard of an attached bayonet at the muzzle of a 20" barrel:

Remington makes 20" barrels with both front beads and rifle sights that have fixed IC chokes and Parkerized finishes. Unless you're planning on digging up one of the old military front clamp/sight/bayonet lug/sling units (which would require a barrel with no front sight), one of those two would probably be the way to go for an old-school military-esque 870 build.

Ah, sorry then. With the rather slow pace of my job and the fact that I quit smoking after 6 years just a week ago, I get antsy pretty easily. Bit overactive on the refresh button.

I'd love to get one of those original bayo lugs, but I realize the odds are pretty slim. That being said, I could've sworn I saw a few pics of the original setup where the barrel was 21 inches. Idk, could be wrong. I'll keep my eye on ebay for the time being.

I've seen those old military 870 clamps pop up on Ebay from time to time, so they're not impossible to find if you're patient, but you can expect to pay a pretty penny for them. You could also keep an eye on Gunbroker, and maybe post in "want to buy" areas of online shooting forums if you want to cast a wider net.

My dad has an 870 SP (Special Purpose?) with what I believe is a factory 21" Remchoke barrel. It is from 1995. It's definitely a 21" barrel and I believe it came from the factory that way. He bought it from a friend. The gun came with wood and matte finish originally. I believe it was marketed as a turkey gun. The original owner had it camo-dipped. It came with an extra-full choke. It's a vent rib barrel. Dad doesn't hunt anymore so he got an IC remchoke for it and uses it for home defense now. So I think Remington made 21" remchoke matte vent rib barrels. You might want to look at the Remington country website.
