I bought this one about 1980 new when they outlawed lead shot for waterfowl in 12 ga shotguns. Could still use lead in 20 ga for a couple of years. It's been a gun save queen ever since. I thought I'd like to put a short barrel on it and set it up for home defense but I don't know which barrel will fit. Anyone have any suggestions.

So I guess the N suffix means that it is a "Heavy Frame Magnum". Does anyone know what barrel will fit?

As far as I know, any large-frame 20ga barrel should be compatible. I don't know if Remington ever made a riot-length barrel for those older 20-gauges; you may have to cut one down, or have someone else do it for you. You should be able to dig up a used vent-rib barrel online, though it may take a bit of looking.
Be aware that some of those large-frame 20ga barrels will only have a 2.75" chamber. 2.75" shells should work fine for home defense, just know what you're getting and don't try to shoot 3" stuff if the barrel's a non-magnum.

Thanks, I actually had tubes put in this one. It's really a good gun. I need to hunt for another large frame one and cut it down....don't want to mess this one up. Do you know if there are any markings on the large frame barrel that identify it? Can't find any on the one I have other than what's on the photo.

Nothing that comes to mind. The big giveaway would be the size of the barrel's breech end & guide ring, but those attributes aren't always obvious in pictures.
