870 Barrels Made by Mossberg
870 Barrels Made by Mossberg
So I know mossberg makes barrels for the 870 but my question is what year did mossberg start making 870 barrels. If nobody knows when mossberg started making them then does anybody have more information about the mossberg barrels.
Re: 870 Barrels Made by Mossberg
I can't help with when, exactly, Mossberg began manufacture of Remington shotgun barrels. I've been using one on my Express 870--blued, 18-1/2" cylinder bore--since the early 1990s. So they were available at least since then, if not before. Maybe someone on a Mossberg forum and/or from Mossberg could tell you without "revealing trade secrets" closely guarded by corporate types?
Anyhow, good luck!

Why do you want to know when Mossberg started manufacturing 870 barrels, Zachary? We may not be able to help you out with that specific date, but if there's a reason behind the question or something larger you're trying to figure out (whether or not a Mossberg 870 barrel can be used with an older 2.75"-only Wingmaster, for example), we may be able to help you there.
Re: 870 Barrels Made by Mossberg
Well I really just wanted to find out more information because me and a friend had a conversation about the quality of the mossberg barrels. I couldn't find any information about mossberg barrels for the 870 on google, bing etc. I'm really just interested in why mossberg started making them and maybe some history behind it. I figured the best placed to see if anybody knew anything more than I did was the 870 forum.Synchronizor wrote:Why do you want to know when Mossberg started manufacturing 870 barrels, Zachary? Re: 870 Barrels Made by Mossberg
I've no complaints on my Mossberg police-type 18 1/2" cylinder bore barrel on my 4+1 870.. The barrel is blued while the shotgun receiver and tubular magazine are parkerized, but that doesn't bother me.
Mossberg makes 'em because so very much of the U.S. market share is dominated by the competitor Remington's guns, which have been around since the 1950s. Build quality on Mossbergs seems very good to me, particularly on the 590. I've seen issues arise on the safety, which colors my judgement, but a great many shotgunners prefer the location, certainly. As a pistol-grip stock user myself, the Remington safety placement is better suited for my stock set up.
