Shell Crushed?
Shell Crushed?
So ive had my 870 for three months now and have the same shells in the magazine tube the whole time. I recently unloaded my gun and found that the two shells at the end of the tube looked like they were crushed. Is this normal?
Re: Shell Crushed?
I do not think that it is. I've had ammo get uncrimped and so forth, but I use quality ammo for storage in the tube... What mfr. is the ammo? Might be a factor. Also, do you maybe have too many shells in the tube? I suppose it could happen with 2-3/4", 3", and 3-1/2" shells out there...

Re: Shell Crushed?
What magazine configuration (spring, follower, extension) are you running? If you're using an overly-stiff magazine spring, it could be what's deforming your shells.
Winchester shells aren't always known for being the greatest quality, though I've only really had issues with their cheap target loads. In any case, it's a good idea to check your loaded HD ammo occasionally (say once a week), and replace it if it starts looking too ragged. When you replace them, I recommend using the old shells for practice, so you stay familiar with the recoil and patterning of your HD load.

I am running the standard remington extension that came on it when i bought it but thats a good idea check the ammo more frequently. I will probably buy better quality ammo next time.Synchronizor wrote:What magazine configuration (spring, follower, extension) are you running?
