BULK AMMO??

Post by spacecowboy237 »

12 guage rounds seem pretty cheap. My range sells the military cans of winchester buck for about $150. That seems like a frikken deal to me. Are there any reputable sites that are good for bulk ammo?

Are those the standard military 160-shell cans?

i'll have to check maybe tonight or tomorrow. I didn't really pay attention. I've only been buying a box of 15 here and there and thats almost $20 a pop.

Every now and then you can score a great deal from Sellier and Bellot (I still have tons of the un-buffered 12-pellet double aught buck from way back... stuff deforms and therefore doesn't pattern too good, but if conditions permit, it is good practice ammo), also every now and then Fiocchi, or Estate, or Rio, etc.

For high-quality defensive shotshells, like the Remington stuff I use for HD, I'm generally happy with $1 or less per round. But if you're looking for real bulk for practice or stockpiling, you should be able to find reliable stuff for $0.40 - $0.50/round.

I've seen Sellier and Bellot #4 shells that avg around .60/shell. Any experience with them? Reviews seem to be good and they've been in the ammo game for a while.

I haven't had any personal experience with S&B buckshot. Which load were you looking at, the 21-pellet or the 27-pellet?

I haven't done any "napkin math" on it, including the ever-dreaded shipping fees...

But, at the moment, Cheaper Than Dirt (CTD) is running a special on 2-3/4" 9 pellet 00 buckshot @ 1145fps. from Armscor (Philippines):
250 shells for $119.59

Sellier & Bellot typically makes quality ammo, although I've found some of their brass cases to be quite thin if one is contemplating reloading. The shotgun ammo I've used is good, but as I may have indicated, the 12-pellet 00 buckshot was not buffered, and the pellets deformed during transit through the barrel. The No.4 buck from S&B I don't think I've tried. I'll try to go to my shed and haul out some of my old saved patterns and double-check.
