Shotgun newbie from Chicago area

Can't believe I've never owned one, but now I do. 870 Express Tactical.

Haven't even fired it yet -- Need to take it down first anyway (tube "sticks" with 6 rounds).

The wife loves it... That's saying something.

WIll undoubtedly look here for guidance on goofy stuff and accessories. I don't even have a sling on it yet.

Sliced the Blackhawk sling down to size (seemed about 15 feet long at first - Took it to the cleaners - literally). Dropped it off at a local gunsmith to properly fit the front sight (I'd have probably wrecked something). The foregrip was easy enough on my own, but after-the-fact ordered a (UTG?) fore-end wrench... I think it was 12 or 13 bucks at Amazon -- Money well-spent, IMO.

Probably going to dump some slugs tomorrow. Looking forward to it and hopefully nothing to report other than how great it is.

Sighted it in with slugs today at the range...

Burned through a couple dozen extra just for the helluvit...

New sight flew off.

Gunsmith was in, bonded it in for me and told me not to shoot anyone for at least 24 hours.

My shoulder hurts.

Did your gun come with one of those solid rubber buttpads?

Yeppers. Spent the last hour searching the forum & net about trying to find a better pad with some extension (another 1/2" to an inch would be great). Found the (Remington) Versa Max pad (another 1/4") but assuming it's going to compress that 1/4" also.

Suggestions welcome of course...

I'd highly recommend Remington's SuperCell recoil pad for soaking up recoil. Best $20 I ever spent on my 870. Part #F301519 should drop right onto your stock, but it won't change your length of pull appreciably. Remington does make an adjustable LoP kit with 1/4" and 1/2" spacers that looks like it'll do what you're looking for, but I'd suggest doing a little homework to make sure they'll fit with your stock.

I almost purchased your very same model but decided to go a little more basic. I'm very happy with mine but it does kick. The first box od 26 shells I went through was like completing a marathon.

Solid gun though and easy to clean and take down. I'm def gonna invest into the new butt pad.


How does that bandolier work for you? I've been eyeing up some scabbards, myself.
