top mount base screws
top mount base screws
So do these need to be installed or can I leave them out. Since I removed them to mount my 429M Top mount base, they seem not to want to thread back in correctly. Here are some pics. I removed the mount due to it was in the way of my Hi-Viz site mount.

you can leave them out. The holes may pickup a little dirt.

Re: top mount base screws
You only have to create one thread.
The gun will function fine without those screws in place, but it's not a great idea to leave those holes open if you use your 870 in wet or dirty conditions. If you want to plug those holes when you're not running a top rail, Remington makes smaller set screws that fit flush with the top of the receiver. These are factory-installed in 870s that have tapped receivers, but don't come with rails.

Thanks, I put the rail back on because the Hi-viz sight was not working for me. I also lost 2 of those little screw and cannot find them. Did you say Remington sells them, I will have to check out there site to see if I can find them.
