Just bought a used 870 from a store here in Kentucky. In great condition and shoots great, just as I expected from a Remington, especially for the $250 I paid for it. When I started looking at different accessories for it (chokes, mag extensions, etc.), I realized that I had no idea what kind of 870 it is- it came with no box, and the tag just said "Remington 870 12 ga." Stock and forend are both synthetic/composite, bead sights, 26 or 28 inch barrel (stationed at Ft. Campbell, keeping weapons off-post so I can't say for sure at the moment) fits 4+1 of 2 3/4" shells. "Special Purpose" on the side, serial # B497490M. Can any of you Remy experts tell me what I have here? I can get a couple pictures of it if need be, if that'll help. Thanks!

Need help identifying my 870!
Re: Need help identifying my 870!
Figured I'd just upload the pics anyway. Sidesaddle carrier was already installed.

Re: Need help identifying my 870!
From your description and the serial number, it seem to be a Special Purpose 12ga Magnum (3") 870 manufactured sometime in the mid-1990s. With that manufacture date, it should have all the updated and most reliable internals. The furniture looks like a typical synthetic stock and a SpeedFeed LE fore-end.
Really not much to say in terms of compatibility here. This is a standard 870 that should be able to accept any 870 accessories or Magnum parts. If it's threaded for choke tubes, they should be normal Rem Choke tubes, unless a previous owner had the barrel custom-threaded for something else.
