"Barrel Wont Seat" Experience

Post by Chilly » Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:55 pm

Experienced a new one last week. Gave my dad an old-tyme smooth barrel for his old 870 (he traded original barrel toward slug barrel and regretted it ever since). The barrel would get tight about 5/16" short. Careful examination showed a raises burr near the detent pin in the barrel ring. Dressed that down with a chainsaw file and slipped right in. I'm guessing the detent pin may have been replaced recently. That barrel certainly never fit on a gun the way it was.

Sounds like an easy fix, and the PO probably mistreated that barrel in some fashion to raise that burr.

I think it wasnt abused, probably just raised a burr when staking in the detent pin.
