Youth 870 20G

Post by 176cmac » Thu Aug 29, 2019 4:01 am

Hello.

I just bought my first 870 in 20g for my daughter.
She likes it but right out of the box it will not extract the shell. Not how I wanted to start out but we still like the shotgun. Anyone else have this issue?

I have heard of that in some the newer 870 Express with lower end shells. Take the barrel off and polish the chamber with some 00 steel wool on a brass brush sprayed lightly with some Remoil hooked up to a drill then repeat with some 0000 steel wool.
I highly recommend the Valquartsen extractor (I pretty mush use only them in my builds) as Vitaly made mention about changing out the extractor. After you do those 2 things your daughters grandchildren shouldn’t experience an extraction issue.

Thank you gentlemen.
The shells we used seamed glued into the chamber, and the extractor spring felt stuck, because I literally just bought it would it not be worth it to take it back to cabalas? They said they will look at it. Is it worth it to deal with them and possibly send it back to Remington? Or just do a take down and do it myself?

Take it down and do it yourself. Polish the chamber and an Volquartsen extractor. For a half hour of your time it will be better than when you get it back in a month.
