Barrells

Post by Peter005 » Sat Jul 06, 2019 11:45 am

Not knowing anything about shotguns i purchased an 870 wingmaster. Came with two barrells: 18" rifled and 26" smooth. My main purpose is home defense, shouldn't I have an 18" smoothbore instead of a rifled? Is it ok to shoot "shot" out of a rifled barrel.

Yes you can shoot shot through a rifled bore, but it can make the Shot spread out in a somewhat doughnut pattern. 18-20 inch barrels are usually preferred for home defense due to the tighter confined space of the home. Long barrels can be hard to maneuver, but can be used.
