Flexitab conversion for my 1979 Wingmaster

Post by Timon » Thu Sep 12, 2019 11:05 pm

I had a talk with Remington and they told me I only needed the following parts and that came from the people that do the repairs and the conversion.

F102190 $21.86 Remington Carrier Assembly 870 12 Gauge New-Style Right Hand
F401023 $24.05 Remington Model 870 Slide Assembly, 12 Ga. (Flex Tab Style)
F102324 $39.95 Remington Forend Tube Assembly New-Style Post 1985 870 12 Gauge

I ask them about the Breech Bolt Assembly and they said is was not required.
F22860 $109.30 Remington Breech Bolt Assembly 870 12 Gauge Chrome

To me and my novice eyes id kinda looked like theSlide Assembly might keep the shell out of the way but as I said I have novice eyes.
So what’s the real story?

You need a newer style bolt. Whoever said you didn’t doing a flex tab conversion was incorrect.

That was my thought although I'm surprised that Remington told me that. I'm going to send then an e-mail asking for clarification due to multiple sources saying they were incorrect.

That said I still think that adding the forend tube assembly is a good idea since my understanding is that it does stabilize the slide assembly.

Question, since these are new parts is it likely that any of the parts might need additional polishing since they are gong into a Wingmaster that has a very smooth action or are these different than the ones used on the Express in that they have had extra preparation?

Everything is just drop in. The only difference between the Wingmaster and Express parts is the chrome vs black bolt. Remember to do a Flex-Tab conversion properly you need 4 pieces.
