There are plenty of good heavy 2.75" game loads out there that aren't huge downgrades from the 3" versions. For example, a typical 2.75" waterfowl load will contain 1-1/4 oz. of shot, while the 3" version will throw 1-3/8 oz. of the same shot at essentially the same velocity. So the 3" version only gives you 10% more shot, which isn't exactly a game-changer with big goose pellets. Paired with the proper choke and used appropriately, either one should get the job done for a hunter who knows what they're doing.
