Factory mag extention question

Post by uwmcscott » Tue Aug 25, 2020 9:12 pm

Hello, newbie here and sorry for asking yet another question about magazine extensions, but could not find an answer by searching here or other places. I recently purchased the 18.5" police barrel from a local sporting goods shop in my travels, they actually had 5 of them in stock which was very surprising as no one seems to have them anywhere else. It was a Fleet Farm store in Antigo WI for those that might want to know - and they don't ship, even to other stores...probably why the had them on the shelf.

Anyway, I see that on Remington's parts page there are actually 3 separate options for 3-round extensions. Two of them appear to be the traditional one-piece tube/cap with the separate lock ring and come in blued ( Remington Part #19421 ) and Parkerized/Matte ( Remington Part #19422 ). There is also a third option which appears to be 2-piece ( separate tube and cap ) that is listed as a flush mount ( Remington Part #19522 ). The latter kit also comes with the newer style barrel clamp and doesn't have the bayonet mount or the ring -its just a straight tube.

None of them appear to be in stock anywhere, just wonderiong if anyone had experience with the newere style 2-piece unit - and if it does truly sit flush on an 18.5" barrel.

I"m making some upgrades to my 870 express that I've had for about 25 years, has the dimple that needs to be drilled as well.

Thanks in advance

No one's ignoring you, but not all of us have experience with the mag tube extensions. I have never used one, but somebody will be along soon.

Agree. I have a few. Will do some swapping and snapping at lunchtime, and post here.

In the meantime, I suggest searching the tube for a tutorial by Synchronizor, iirc, where he explains quite a bit about extensions, including 1-piece vs. 2-piece

Thanks, and I did indeed watch that tutorial a few days ago when I started researching, very good information. I think his vid is one of the first ones if you google "870 magzine extension" ;-) I think a 2-piece is the way i'd like to go, which led me to the question between the 2 factory remington versions.

And no worries on response time, judging by the way everything is in short supply it will likely be a while before anything is available to purchase anyway. I have thought about driving back to the store I found all those 18'.5 police barrels and grabbing the lot, but I really only need one so hopefully others in need will grab one.

A "lineup" of +2 and +3 extensions, together to compare size and finish. Also an M1100 "competition" which looks like a +4 and has same thread.
