Ghost Ring Installation

Post by Tango_Whiskey » Fri Mar 16, 2012 2:51 am

Hello fellow 870 shooters,
I just received a set of Trijicon RE04 Ghost Ring sights that I ordered from Brownells. The installation instructions were not in the package. Does anyone have the instructions? I was hoping to get these things installed today and shoot this weekend but it looks doubtful.

I may be mistaken, but doesn't the RE04 series require tapping of the receiver for the rear sight, and the front sight needs to be glued or soldered?

Correct, the kit is supposed to come with instructions that gives you dimensions etc. on where to drill and tap the holes. I called Brownells and tried to get them to open a fresh package and fax me the instruction sheet but I ended up calling Trijicon direct and they emailed it to me. Now I need to hunt down a #6-40 tap apparently nobody in my area has one.

Here in 2023, 870's come predrilled and tapped,
at least my TAC-14 20Ga, did (from BUD'S).

MY question, before buying, would be:
DO TRIJICON & REMINGTON KNOW THIS, AND
DO THE SIGHT'S HOLES MATCH UP WITH THE RECEIVER'S?

If you are a little shy about drilling (easy) and tapping (nerve -racking), a good smith will charge about $10/hole. Tapping is a little dangerous as the hole is small and taps are fragile. One does not want to snap a tap off!
