Barrel clamp rubbing away the finish..

Post by Chief Brody » Tue Dec 04, 2012 3:06 pm

On sunday, I took apart my 870P to clean it after competing in my first steel plate match. I noticed that the barrel clamp had rubbed away the finish in a couple of small spots on the barrel, down to shiny bare metal. What can I do about this? Is there something I can put between the barrel and clamp to prevent it from happening?

Also, once the barrel clamp was removed, and I loosened the mag extension nut, the extension was very loose, ready to come right off. I always tighten it down as much as I can but you can't really get a lot of leverage on that thing.

For the finish rubbing away, I would de-grease it and my maybe cold blue it, to prevent it from rusting. For the extension tube, I have never seen this happen yet. Perhaps if you can put the blue lock tight (not as hard as the red lock tight) and see if that helps. I do not think you have to clean the tube much of-then as the barrel it self..... Just a suggestion. Take it for what its worth.

I'll give that loctite a try. I had to remove the extension so that I could take the barrel off.
Thanks,
Steve

The easiest way to protect finish is 3M Non slip Polymer Pads: http://cdmgear.com/pads.html
They are cheap and simple solution. I use them on my shotgun.

I emailed CDM about the pads, they should be back in stock by Saturday. Thanks for the tip.
