Stock cleaned up well. Sanded up to 600 grit, then used some Birchwood Casey water based walnut stain. It worked OK but not crazy about it. It has a slight orange hue so I knocked it back with 600 between two applications so only the open grain held tint. First coat of Tung Oil Finish is drying now.
