Shoestring budget hunting/HD

Post by Germansheperd » Fri Jan 04, 2019 9:10 pm

Ive been searching gun shows and classifieds looking for a high polished blued VR barrel 23-26” threaded for Remchokes to throw on one of my old Wingmasters to go into the woods with. Ive been striking out everywhere then I ran across this for $200 at the last gun show. An Express with a 21” VR barrel with threaded for Remchokes. NOT my first choice in a shotgun but the price was worth it to me seeing as how I would have almost $300 shipped in a blued 26” VR barrel from Remington direct.
I stripped it down and gave it a good cleaning. Next I broke the breech bolt down cleaned it and the firing pin. Put it back together with a new firing pin spring, new Remington forged extractor, and new extractor spring.
Up next i tore into the trigger plate and cleaned it up, put in a new stock sear spring and a 1100 carrier spring.
I then dropped in a new aluminum follower, 2 shot magazine extension, and threw on a sling thats been in my box of spare parts.
ALL in all I own this for just under $300 and i think it should be set for the next 40-50 years.

Thank you! It should be fine going into the woods banging against trees.

Yup, although you might want to source a slug barrel if you're more of a deer hunter than winged-beast slayer. The short 21" VR barrel is a compromise with slugs and with shot. But still it is about the perfect length for a knockabout shotgun.

You are correct but I have a rifled blued slug barrel to drop on an the old Wingmaster for deer.
