870 express super Magnum barrel options

I just bought a used 870 express super magnum for 255 otd. I was told that it will not work with other barrels unless it came from a super magnum also. I would like to find a 18.5” barrel for around the house and keep the 28” for hunting. Can I use any 870 barrel or am I really stuck. Thanks.
