Remington 870 Magnum

Hello, I'm a long time 870 man, but I really have not kept up with all of the different models and variations of these fine shotguns. I'm interested in buying an 870 that is marked Remington 870 Magnum on the left side. Also supposed to be a former police shotgun, is this how these guns were marked before the Police Magnums came along?

I believe the models stamped with magnum on the receiver are late 1980s. You can find police models that were in service on gunbroker.com I would start there and look to find the magnum stamp thought there probably not police models but just used by police. In 2014 is when the receives were stamped Police Magnum before that they where stamped 870p.

Thanks for your reply, I'll keep this in mind.

How about shotguns only marked Remington 870? Another one I just bought, but haven't received yet, looks like an Express, but is not marked as one. Synthetic furniture, 18 inch barrel.

Sounds like an express model if it has the matte blue finish. All matte blue finishes are express models weather they say it on the receiver or not. When Remington was phasing out the standard 870 with blue finish to the new express matte blue finish is when the receiver stampings got weird. I have a 1987 Remington 870 blue finish which the receiver is stamped 870 magnum, but has wing master stock and forend, chrome polish breech bolt and it has the RemChoke on the barrel. I called Remington and they say it’s a wingmaster but it doesn’t say on the receiver.
